FCK PTN! (Ukraine stamps and postcard)
In October 2022, Banksy confirmed he had
created seven new murals in and around Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine. Some
of the murals appeared on destroyed buildings, including a gymnast doing a
handstand on a pile of rubble, a woman in her dressing gown wearing a gas mask
and holding a fire extinguisher and an older man in his bath.
This unsigned, framed artwork (23cm x 32cm) brings together three items
from the Ukrposhta (the national post office of Ukraine) first-day issue from
on 24 February 2023. It includes the official limited edition of 100,000
postcards, limited edition of 100,000 envelopes and a set of six full bleed
stamps – all now long sold out. The full bleed shows the copyright of Banksy in
the bottom right-hand corner.

These elements mark the historic moment of the
one-year anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The original was
painted on a demolished wall in the town of Borodyanka, north-west of Kyiv,
where many buildings were reduced to rubble by Russian aircraft at the start of
the invasion. The image draws inspiration from the Russian president, Vladimir
Putin, known to be a black belt in judo, and depicts a young judoka
representing Ukraine, knocking down a grown man. The stamps feature the words
ПТН ПНХ! (F**k Putin or sometimes referred to as FCK PTN!) in Cyrillic
lettering, the alphabet used by Slavic-speaking people.
